Friday Reads: Linda Howard’s Mackenzies

Today has been a really crappy day. I’m talking REALLY crappy and it’s only 1PM. I still have four hours of work left, but the good news is, I have something to look forward to. You know when days get so bad, you just want to dive into another world, into a great story, and never come out? Well, Linda Howard’s Mackenzie books do that for me. Whenever I’m in a really bad mood, I pick up one of my battered copies of Mackenzie’s Mountain, Mackenzie’s Mission, or a Game of Chance.

Linda Howard’s older books have the most rich, most developed characters I’ve ever read. Most importantly, her alpha heroes are SEXY. They are her older books, so she’s still stretching her writer’s legs. You’ll see a repetitive use of the word ‘suddenly’ and there will be a few writer kinks, but Howard demonstrates an important morale that everyone tends to forget when being critical: If the story is THAT good, who cares?

I strongly suggest you scavange your local bookstore and start reading. Cheers!
